The $425 million project is helmed by Greenwood Racing, which owns Parx Casino in Bensalem, and The Cordish Companies, which owns the recently constructed XFinity Live! venue near the sports complex in South Philadelphia. Rumors flying around both Philadelphia and Harrisburg seem to indicate that the proposal prepared by Stadium Casino, LLC, will be the winner. Of the four applicants, two wish to build in Center City, while two are planning to build in South Philadelphia. Perhaps none are more concerned about the possibility of another Philadelphia casino than the executives running Harrah’s Philadelphia Racetrack and Casino located along the Chester waterfront. With 12 casinos already operating in the state, including six within 65 miles of Delaware County, operators of some of those sites are anxious about the thirteenth license being issued and the effect it will have on their revenues. CHESTER > The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is poised to issue a stand-alone casino license Tuesday afternoon to one of four applicants seeking to build Philadelphia’s second gambling venue, and many in Delaware County are hoping the license remains unclaimed.
